Waitui single malt: name, logo & packaging

Waitui logoWaitui, a Small Batch, Single Malt, Manuka Honey, Golden Bay Whiskey, a unique New Zealand made prestige product, one of the few true ‘Honey whiskies’ made in the world today—in Takaka, Golden Bay.

Waitui, previously named ‘Bush Whiskey’ required renaming, rebranding and packaging to a standard that properly reflects the product. The result of the rebrand and repackaging has been outstanding at achieving the client’s goals; greatly increasing sales volume, profitability, and enabling the product to be distributed to prestige Whisky specialist retailers such as Whiskey Galore in Christchurch.

Silver Cloud 100% agave spirit launch event

Silver Cloud product launch even invitation.

A documentary photo essay that I shot of the fabulous Silver Cloud 100% Pure Agave liquor launch event at Nicola’s Cantina in Nelson New Zealand.

The feature of the launch event was the auction by Terry Knight of only the first two of the thirty bottle limited release, bottles number 30 and 29, which sold on the night for a tidy NZD$400 and $450 respectively, a fitting testament to the quality of the pure agave liquor, the packaging, the branding and the success of the well promoted and event managed launch of event.

Vinevax packaging makeover

Design is about communication, the more compelling the design, the deeper the response

Vinevax_logo_radiused_256pxMore compelling design doesn’t mean prettier, or more arty. By more compelling I mean richer, more complete, better because it is more efficient, better because it is attractive in useful ways. The design of Vinevax’s new brand collateral isn’t merely about their product looking better on the shelf, but actually functioning better as an advertisement for itself in a competitive retail environment. The design has to do with the work of increasing sales by making Vinevax’s packaging beautiful and clear.

It’s exciting. Keep on reading!

Packaging design portfolio

Whether you are launching a new product or wanting a packaging upgrade for an established brand, the goal of packaging design is to attract customers’ attention, connect with them, be memorable, and persuade them to purchase your product over your competitors. For this purpose, packaging design must do more than simply inform your customers, it must also elicit emotions. Well designed packaging is attractive, impresses with its creativity and looks beautiful both on & off the shelf.

Logo design workflow: Bionona

Introduction

Bionona concept development, generating ideas by rendering quick thumbnails on the drawing board.

Bionona is a global biotechnology commercial persuasion brand that aims to motivate the sale of goods in the personal healthcare, therapeutic and cosmetics consumer markets, while also inspiring confidence in their business partners in product development and their peers in scientific research and development. The launch of Bionona’s new website and brand was a combined brand launch and website design project presented to three stakeholders that comprised the client, all located remotely in different cities. This web presentation was based on the client brief and my market research online and in pharmacies and health food stores.

The creative brief: design process & the four Ws

Design from a creative brief.

Designer and client must work towards the same, agreed goal.

The creative brief is the blueprint for the project. It’s a collaboration of designer and client. It includes project overview, goals, messages, audience description, budget, schedule and so on. The act of writing all of this down means that everyone has talked through and agreed on what the design is to embody.

Branding & packaging for Atopis Therapeutics

Hand-held photorealistic mockup of front of Bionona business card, printed in 4 colours, litho offset.

The final Bionona logo creates a strong signature for the company. The logo design is an infographic symbol of a snip genetic code from a novel peptide developed in the lab.

When offered the chance to design branding and packaging for Bionona’s new Atopis™ Therapeutics patented daily skin care range initiative, I leapt at the chance for the reason that it was an opportunity to work directly with the scientist Iona Weir, who discovered and developed the novel compounds that are the active ingredient, and research scientists are pretty much heroes of mine. Atopis™ is a clinically proven, patented, therapeutic cream that has been specifically designed for the long-term safe management of skin conditions usually managed with steroidal creams, such as eczema, psoriasis and acne.

Launching Silver Cloud 100% agave spirit

“Silver Cloud” 100% Blue Agave Spirit is the product name originated by MagentaDot Brands for the first release of 30 bottles of New Zealand’s first Pure Agave Tequilana Spirit. Silver Cloud is the brainchild of Master Distiller Terry Knight of Kiwi Spirit Distillery whose idea it was to make a premium small batch 100% Agave Spirit from agave grown in Golden Bay and distilled by him. The name, “Silver Cloud”, the logo and packaging combined to position New Zealand’s first premium 100% Blue Agave Spirit at the premium price point of NZD $1,000 per bottle. This is a branding and packaging project at the high end of the international liquor market for which I was commissioned to create something handmade and special. My branding saw the first release of 30 bottles achieve selling to both a national and global market at the desired $1,000 per bottle price.
