Writing & Research: Technical

In order to write effectively in technical documents online or in print, writers need to do their research. My ability to get the facts straight and communicate them in ways that are engaging is showcased in my technical writing & research for the websites, blogs, and news feeds of these four clients; Velocette Racing New Zealand, Terranova thing, MTC Equipment and TruLine Civil. Depending on specific client needs, as is the case with the VRNZ project, or my own MagentaDot Brands portfolio website, blogs are integrated with a Facebook page.

TruLine case study docs

The website Case Studies are published from pdfs for inclusion in tender bid documents as required. The case studies are focussed on TruLine Civil’s methodologies as applied to specific contracts. Between 2008–11 this involved documentary location photography of completed projects from Punakaiki to Arthurs Pass. Since 2011 the project manager shifted up the priority going forward, shooting TruLine’s workplace methodologies  in progress at selected works in progress. This open-ended project has progressively provided a high quality image library that covers the gamut of TruLine’s civil engineering strengths and capabilities.

The key personnel custom Word document template allows for the individual CVs to be recombined and re-ordered by the client on an ad-hoc basis then published in-house to suit the specific requirements of each tender bid.

Case studies for Civil Engineering firms. Why are they so beneficial?

Tru-Line Civil Logo. Brands for New Zealand companies, Greymouth, New Zealand. Two of my legacy clients merged to form TruLine Civil in 2011, I branded the merged civil engineering firm and developed a market positioning strategy in collaboration with the projects manager. To set TruLine apart from the crowd and influence the way their target audience perceives them we chose to emphasise the distinguishing feature of the firm, their methodology for completing civil works. Civil works methodology is a suitcase term, which when unpacked is the TruLine system of methods, this goes to depth and breadth of staff education, their training and hands-on experience, problem-solving skills, use of good judgement, creative thinking, and the ace up their sleeve, the firm’s exemplary level of employee retention. By creating their first website around that core of Civil Engineering case studies, including documentary photography, the meaning behind the brand’s mission “Excellence in Infrastucture” is shown to be backed-up by a reputation and ranking in the industry that is earned.

Hard working TruLine stationery system

The Tru-Line Civil rebrand’s good-looking corporate stationery system works hard and adapts easily. The design conforms to the world’s most popular business look. It is corporate—uncluttered, clean and impressive. The Tru-Line business system, consists of A4 letterhead, envelope, business card, with compliments slip and a versatile laminated and embossed document folder that is trimmed down from the same worksheet as the folder to create a custom Word document cover with a window. The system is easily manipulated and I can adapt it for almost any use. At the core of the system is the Tru-Line Civil logo, or “mark” and a separate block of text.

Precast reinforced concrete box culverts

Tru-Line Civil Logo. Brands for New Zealand companies, Greymouth, New Zealand.Precast concrete box culverts are steel reinforced. There are several accepted ways to install the reinforcement and the overburden appropriately sizes the amount of steel reinforcement needed.

This box culvert has specific loads associated with this site and conditions of use in a high rainfall alpine area on the River Bealey riverbed beneath the Tranzalpine railway. These conditions include burial depth, rail traffic, waterway loading, and impact loadings. The reinforcement in these box culverts is significant and that same reinforcing along with quality concrete and installation by TruLine Civil ensures at least a 100 year life cycle of service for this valuable component of infrastructure.
